Becoming a Client

Lake Country Caring’s assistance is available to residents of Dodge, Jefferson, Washington  and Waukesha counties who demonstrate financial need through participation in low-income governmental programs or having household income at or below 200% of the federal  poverty level. Other ways to qualify include disaster documentation for first-time registration.

No appointment is needed. Registration is a quick 5-minute interview conducted on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Clients should arrive no earlier than 8:45 a.m on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. You will receive a number from the outdoor greeter. Entry order is not based on arrival time. If you arrive after 10 a.m. and no greeter is present, enter and check in at the front desk. On the first Tuesday of every month, we offer evening shipping. Please arrive no earlier than 4:45 p.m. If you arrive after 5:30 p.m. and no greeter is present, enter and check in at the front desk.

You will need:

  • Photo ID (driver’s license, passport or government-issued ID)
  • Proof of address (rental agreement, utility bill or business mail)
  • Proof of need (FoodShare, Medicaid, BadgerCare, public housing, school lunch program, other nonprofit services, tax returns, INS paperwork or disaster documentation for first time registration)

Yes, most client days have a Spanish interpreter available.

Clients can visit our Community Resources wall, which includes brochures and information on assistance with utilities, rent, meals, food pantries, healthcare, shelter and more.

Donations

You can drop off your donations on Mondays and Fridays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The donation door is on the side of the building. Due to staffing limitations, we regret that we cannot accept donations at any other time. Items left at Lake Country Caring outside of our stated donation hours will be disposed of.

Please text Harry at (262) 899-2761 with photos of your furniture and your location if you need Lake Country Caring to pick it up.

We accept the following items.

  • Furniture & Appliances: Tables, chairs, beds, dressers, sofas, lamps, area rugs, washers/dryers, small kitchen appliances.
  • Clothing: Men, women, and children’s clothing, underwear, socks, shoes, coats/jackets (must be free of rips or stains).
  • Bedding & Soft Goods: Towels, sheets, blankets, quilts, new bed pillows.
  • Housewares & Home Decor: Dishes, glassware, pots/pans, utensils, storage containers, window treatments, shower curtains, throw rugs.
  • Books & Media: Children’s and adult books, DVDs, CDs.
  • Toys: Clean toys, games and complete puzzles.

Items such as air conditioners, crib drop-sides, certain furniture, TVs, computers, business or formal clothing, stained bedding, exercise machines, large artwork and more. Click HERE to see a detailed donation guide.

Yes! Albrecht’s Sentry & Fox Bros Piggly Wiggly donate a percentage of receipts. Sentry receipts must be from the last 6 months; Piggly Wiggly receipts from the current year. Submit receipts to a donation volunteer or mail them to us at:

Volunteering

Yes! We need volunteers to help with donation intake, sorting, client registration, Spanish interpretation, furniture pickup/delivery and more.

Yes, our volunteers must be at least 15 years old.

Prospective volunteers meet with the Volunteer Coordinator, complete an application and attend an orientation/training session.

As often as your schedule allows: weekly or monthly.
